Primet welcomes Year 6 families to Open Event

Staff and students welcomed families from Pendle primary schools to their annual open event on 25th September.

Hundreds of Year 6 children and their families enjoyed a tour of the school at the open event, hearing from staff, students and prefects about what makes them Proud to be Primet.

Year 7 students Zaeem and Evie spoke to families about their first few weeks at high school. Zaeem said: "The main things that stood out to me were the values of the teachers and the effort that the school puts into each student’s well-being." Evie added: "At first, I was nervous because it's a big school and I didn't know many people, however, now I have made more friends and have begun to enjoy school. This is because I like my lessons and my form tutor."

Head Boy, Harris, and Head Girl, Sophie also spoke to families. Harris said: "Here at Primet your child will have access to an abundance of subjects at GCSE alongside potential additional ones like further maths or a Higher Project qualification.

"All of these subjects lead to different future routes, but this means there is something for everyone and it makes it easier to determine our own way to success as well. We recognise that the choices we take, start to define our destinations.

"Our amazing teachers not only teach us what we need to know for our GCSE subjects but also push us to achieve the highest goals possible by providing us with all the resources necessary. Colne Primet assists us in discovering what our next steps are, provides us with work experience and makes sure we have good careers advice.

"Currently at Primet, there is more support available than ever before when it comes to careers with that set to increase by the time your child is in that position. We have two members of staff in school during the week – Miss Morris and Mrs Bielby, however we often get external visitors coming into school to provide extra advice, including our careers advisor who meets with all KS4 students to create a personalised plan."

Sophie added: "An extensive range of activities ensures everyone's interests are catered to, allowing us to have the best chance of developing as people. I, for example, enjoy netball and have subsequently joined our school netball team that plays weekly out of school in a local league. 'Primet Teens' has been an amazing chance for me to develop as a sports person and play against experienced teams.

"Other enrichment comes in the form of the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award, run annually by our staff, We have also offered residentials at PGL including a netball weekend and a year 11 trip. Experience day is a highlight for new activities with students getting to explore adventurous situations like zip lining.

"All of these events provide development of essential life skills and also create lasting bonds.

"Our student community is likely one of the most noticeable aspects of Primet. We are known for being extremely supportive, inclusive and welcoming, which allows students to be comfortable during their time at school. Our key values of together and inclusive are embodied by both pupils and staff alike, creating a warm and accepting atmosphere. Corridors are filled with friendly smiles and our supportive staff members are always happy to help. All of these qualities contribute to our warm, welcoming and friendly environment where students feel safe and heard."

Families with children in Year 6 have until 31st October 2025 to apply for a September 2026 place. Applications need to be made on the Lancashire County Council website.
