‘Proud to be PRIMET’
Primet offers all students interesting and varied opportunities to explore the routes to achieve their ambitions and dreams in the world of work. There is online support for parents and carers to have those important conversations with your child https://www.talkingfutures.org.uk
Our objective is for all students to understand and develop their essential skills and qualities needed to enter a future workplace. Linking the learning of essential employability skills with our Primet Positives to ensure that our students are prepared, focused and ready to take their next steps.
There is a careers area in the Oracle where students can access information, a careers room for drop in sessions and appointments with a Careers Adviser. All Key Stage 4 students have the opportunity for at least one Careers guidance appointment with the Careers Adviser, to help them make vital career choices.
Students have dedicated Careers Personal Development time once a week and careers education is embedded into the wider curriculum.
We support students to gain insight into the ‘real life’ working world through work experience, workplace and employer visits and mock interviews. These support our students to develop their self-confidence and communication skills, which will assist them as they progress into further education or employment.
We are building strong local industry links so that employers, professionals and local training providers can work with students and teachers to further expand knowledge and experiences.
In 2022, our school achieved the Barclays Life Skills Award for the work done supporting students to gain employability skills.

Our academy is committed to ensuring all of our students have access to highly impartial careers advice and to a range of employers who can support them in considering their future. To help us do this we align our CEIAG Plan to the Gatsby Benchmarks which have been explicitly referenced throughout the DfE’s Careers Strategy (December 2017) the Statutory Guidance for careers (January 2018) and aligns to the delivery of independent careers guidance to Year 7-11 studentss in accordance with section 42A of the Education Act 1997.

Colne Primet Academy supports all Year 10 students to take part in the two-week opportunity, with students encouraged to source their own placement. We can support by making suggestions of employers, giving advice on how to contact and we have developed a program to support them feeling prepared and ready for this.
Students are required to complete their Work Experience Form for their placement and return it to their Head of Year or the Careers Team, before the deadline at the start of February.
The development program to support them includes Barclays LifeSkills (The Talent Foundry) delivering tailored workshops on CV writing, interview skills, employability skills and how to communicate digitally in the world of work. This is continued during Careers Personal Development time with relevant videos and short lessons, workshops and self-study, but also assemblies, and discussed in Careers Guidance appointments.
This section is to support with those big career making decisions. We aim that the support at Colne Primet ensures that young people are aware of their own interests, skills and aspirations. They understand the opportunities and world of work, and are able to make use of all of this when considering career and academic related decisions.
